You’ve got free time in hand? And you really want to do something constructive this vacation? Here’s a knitting project to make a large size knit bag which is good for use when you go to the bazaar or can be used as a college bag or an office bag or simply a vacation bag. So go grab your supplies and get on a knitting spree. You will certainly be proud of the knit bag you make!

 

Here’s a list of knitting abbreviation

Step 1: Things you need

  • Knitting needle size of 7 or 4.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles
  • Yarn Weight: (4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
  • Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows = 4″ (10.2cm) in St st
  • Willow Yarns™ Wash (100% anti-pill acrylic; 100g/180yd)
    • A: 732142-0009 Wild Lime – 1 ball
    • B: 732142-0012 Turquoise – 2 balls
    • C: 732142-0024 Snow – 1 ball
    • D: 732142-0026 Polished Wood – 1 ball
  • US size 7 (4.5mm) 24″ circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

Step 2:  Stitching pattern

Woven st (multiple of 6 sts): Rnds 1-2: With B, k. Rnd 3: With A, *k1, sl 2 wyib, k3; rep from * around. Rnd 4: With A, *p1, sl 2 wyib, p3; rep from * around. Rnds 5-6: With B, k. Rnd 7: With C, *k4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rnd 8: With C, *p4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rnds 9-10: With B, k. Rnd 11: With D, *k1, sl 2 wyib, k3; rep from * around. Rnd 12: With D, *p1, sl 2 wyib, p3; rep from * around. Rnds 13-14: With B, k. Rnd 15: With A, *k4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rnd 16: With A, *p4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rnds 17-18: With B, k. Rnd 19: With C, *k1, sl 2 wyib, k3; rep from * around. Rnd 20: With C, *p1, sl 2 wyib, p3; rep from * around. Rnds 21-22: With B, k. Rnd 23: With D, *k4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rnd 24: With D, *p4, sl 2 wyib; rep from * around. Rep Rnds 1-24 for pat.

Step 3: Other specifications

Firstly it is k flat at the bottom of bag, then sts are picked up and bag is worked in the rnd. This is how the bag’s bottom should be weaven – with B, CO 60 sts, work in St st for 3″ (7.6cm), BO all sts. As for the sides – With B, pick up and k60 along CO edge, pick up and k15 along side, pick up and k60 along BO edge, pick up and k15 along side, pm for beg of rnd—150 sts. Changing colors as indicated in pat, work in woven st for 13″ (33cm), ending with 2 rnds in B. Then comes the edges -worked in B. Rnd 1: K. Rnd 2: P. Rep last 2 rnds until bag measures 15″ (38 cm) and BO all sts. Lastly, the handle is with B, CO 50 sts. K 9 rows. BO all sts. Finally, sew handles onto RS front and back of bag approx 1″ (2.5cm) down from the edge, approx 8″ (20.3cm) apart. Sew handles down, making a box with an “X” in it with your sts to keep it steadfast at the seam and weave in ends.

So you’re ready to pack your newly made knit bag! Likewise bags in other pattern can also be made as shown in the picture below which is of the berry stitch pattern.
